Quintel Partners with Tier 1 US Operator to Increase Pan Handle Network Capacity in Advance of Spring Break

Quintel is proud to announce its patented MultiServ antenna solution has been launched in multiple sites to significantly increase 3G capacity. Utilizing Quintel’s “Sectorization in the Vertical Plane” (SVP), operators can deploy additional 3G carriers within existing spectrum by replacing current antennas with Quintel’s MutliServ standard form factor antennas.

Quintel®, the leading innovator of highly efficient antennas for wireless networks, has just completed the deployment of its SVP solution for a Tier 1 US operator. This project was triggered by the need for increasing 3G capacity without carving additional spectrum from 2G. In response to increasing penetration of smart phones and high-concentrations of users, our customer challenged us to provide as much capacity as possible, without additional spectrum or adding any antennas. The solution chosen was to replace the existing two antennas per sector with comparably-sized Quintel MultiServ antennas eliminating zoning and landlord issues which expedited time-to-improvement.

SVP splits cells in the vertical plane, rather than the conventional horizontal plane approach, to create new small cells serving close in users. Quintel’s unique “Tilt-by-Pole” feature enables spatial/polar receive diversity (with only 2 antennas) and independent 2G/3G optimization, which when combined improves quality and increases capacity. SVP has been proven to provide significant capacity gains in qualified cells as well as taking power off the horizon which lowers overall network interference.

Quintel’s engineers analyzed existing coverage and traffic distribution in the Pan Handle area to simulate and predict the SVP capacity gains. The simulated results using SVP tightly aligned with the actual results achieved across multiple cell sites which yielded over a 50% capacity gain. This enabled the network to carry more traffic with fewer blocked calls vs. Spring Break last year.

“Sectorization in the Vertical Plane (SVP) has been proven to be a tremendous solution which operators can leverage to quickly add 3G capacity to qualified cell sites,” said Keith Radousky, Quintel’s Chief Technology Officer - Americas. “Operators can simply engage us to analyze network hot spots for SVP feasibility, and can quickly start realizing capacity gains for SVP viable sites.”

About Quintel
Quintel is an innovative leader in wireless network antenna technology development and manufacturing solutions. The company’s products enable global wireless operators to independently deploy and optimize multiple air interfaces or services on a single standard antenna platform. Quintel is the only antenna supplier whose products can increase a wireless network’s capacity, and the number of services, without increasing the number of antennas or size. Our core technologies originated in the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence, and are now deployed throughout the world. Quintel is headquartered in Rochester, New York with additional offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia. For more information about Quintel, please visit http://www.quintelsolutions.com.
