CommonDesk Releases New Version of ARCviewer – Mobile Access to Archived Email in Symantec Enterprise Vault

CommonDesk has released a new version of ARCviewer that provides mobile access to email messages archived using Symantec Enterprise VaultTM from BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, and now also Android devices.

Thousands of organizations currently use Symantec Enterprise Vault(TM) to archive email messages from desktop systems. Today, CommonDesk announces that it has partnered with Symantec to release a new version of ARCviewer, which now provides full featured access to Enterprise Vault from iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, and Android devices as well. With ARCviewer, users have access to all of their messages from mobile devices, just as they expect from Enterprise Vault for Outlook on their PC.

According to The Radicati Group, 85% of surveyed corporate users access their business email from a mobile device. A typical corporate mobile inbox has approximately 30 to 60 days of email history, whereas the same corporate desktop inbox has access to years of archived email when Enterprise Vault is added to the Outlook email application.

CommonDesk’s ARCviewer maximizes productivity while the user is away from their desk by enabling them to browse archives, perform simple and advanced searches, archive messages, and send a full version of an archived email to their mobile inbox . The user can access attachments and follow urls and dial phone numbers found in any archived messages.

These features give users enhanced email productivity with a familiar mobile experience.

“ARCviewer is a native application that has been designed to take advantage of the current capabilities of each mobile platform. Our goal is to provide the best user experience possible for Apple, BlackBerry and Android users,” says Mitchell Balsam, CTO and Founder of CommonDesk. “As mobile device manufacturers expose new features, CommonDesk will use them to provide a seamless experience to access historical email messages on all mobile devices,” says Balsam.

ARCviewer maintains security by requiring each user to enter their Windows Domain login credentials before access is granted to their archives. Credentials are easy to remember since they’re the same as the user’s desktop account.

“Companies often use Microsoft Exchange quotas to limit the size of a user’s inbox. But users can inadvertently find themselves in a situation where their inbox will reject all new email messages,” says Vaibhav Kaul, Director of Engineering at CommonDesk. “We solve this problem by providing a screen where users can monitor the size of their inbox and remaining quota, and proactively archive the largest or oldest messages to ensure that they will always receive important email.”

ARCviewer is paired with CommonDesk’s ARCbridge server, which is deployed behind the firewall or within the organization’s DMZ. The ARCbridge server is administered using the CD360 web-based management console.

ARCbridge servers provide the security, scalability and control demanded by enterprise administrators who need to support thousands of distributed users. Multiple ARCbridge servers can be deployed to provide the scalability required by large Enterprise Vault installations with potentially tens of thousands of mobile users.

The CD360 Administration console makes it easy for administrators to monitor and manage large deployments having multiple ARCbridge servers spread across different datacenters. The system monitors resource utilization and limits the number of simultaneous connections to Enterprise Vault to ensure seamless 24/7 access.

The same administration console is used to manage all CommonDesk products. Using CD360, customers can easily install CommonDesk’s other products such as the Compliance Engine solution that provides SEC and FINRA compliance for Blackberry SMS, PIN, BIS email and BBM messages. CD360 also has modules to capture Skype desktop IM and voice messages, desktop instant messaging, ChatterTM and Bloomberg messages.

"CommonDesk is a highly regarded Symantec partner and part of the large developer network whose solutions provide additional value for our customers," said Greg Muscarella, senior director of product management for Symantec’s Information Management Group. "ARCviewer expands upon the robust capabilities of Enterprise Vault by enhancing our customers’ mobile access to mail archived in Enterprise Vault."

ARCviewer is app store downloadable or it can be pushed to the device.
