CouponTrade.com, the first consumer-driven gift card exchange, continues to disrupt and capture its share of the annual $20 billion worth of unredeemed gift cards. The Chicago-based company has posted unprecedented success against nearly every critical financial metric since first going live less than a year ago.

The company’s Q2 report includes:

  •     An eight-fold increase in consumer gift card listings
  • A 20-fold increase in revenue from these listings
  • A spike in traffic to 200,000 monthly unique visitors
  • A membership base of 125,000, up from 35,000 since March.

“While the financials are clearly a critical measure, equally important is what’s driving the growth: our strategy of putting the consumer at the center of the transaction,” CouponTrade.com Chief Operating Officer Bradley Wasz said. “Tired of fees and expiration dates robbing them of their gift card’s value, our customers are showing us that they are taking ownership of their own savings and deals. Our eight-fold increase this quarter validates this approach.”

Unique to other gift card sites, CouponTrade users can get up to 100% of their card’s face value, while the site also serves as a savings hub. Using the site, customers are empowered to pair discount gift cards with site coupon codes to save at nearly 2,000 nationally known retailers in the site’s database.

Nearing the end of the first year of operations, CouponTrade has grown to 27 employees and has produced millions in revenue. CouponTrade Chief Executive Officer George Bousis believes his company has “taken the number one spot of the gift card exchange space” and said it will “continue establishing strategic partnerships to develop new technologies for users to save money.”
