Company Aims to Build on Significant U.S. Momentum

dōTERRA International, LLC (dōTERRA) today announced its official expansion into Japan and the opening of a second office in Taiwan. Since its inception four years ago in April 2008, the company has experienced significant growth in the United States, despite a lagging economy. With this foundation, dōTERRA anticipates its entry into Japan and expansion in Taiwan will add to the company’s growth drivers. The company offices in Japan and Taiwan are in highly accessible, prime locations, complete with executive offices and vibrant product stores.

“Following a record year in 2011, we continue to generate tremendous momentum in the United States and around the world. A wonderful indicator of this is that during the fourth quarter of 2011 we purchased more product inventory than in 2008, 2009 and 2010 combined,” said David Stirling, president and chief executive officer.

From a direct selling industry perspective, the Asia-Pacific Region accounts for 42 percent of total global direct sales. Japan is a $22.7 billion dollar market and is the second largest direct selling market in the world. Many companies are experiencing declining sales in this mature direct selling market, leading companies and distributors in Japan to look for new options to expand their business. An entire Japanese company of 5,000 distributors joined with dōTERRA in March 2012 in a transaction that adds to dōTERRA’s existing larger distributor network in Japan.

“We are very grateful and encouraged by the crowds of enthusiastic people, many of whom had been purchasing dōTERRA products from the United States and are conducting dōTERRA product training meetings throughout Japan. It’s clear they see significant opportunity in that dōTERRA products are immediately sharable, and large numbers of people love the products, regardless of their age, gender, or demographic,” Stirling added.

In 2010, dōTERRA opened its Taiwan headquarters in centrally located Taichung and experienced significant growth in 2011 under the leadership of John Chou, an experienced direct selling veteran. To further establish dōTERRA in Taiwan, a second office has been opened in the capital city of Taipei. Situated at the northern tip of the island, the Taipei metropolitan area is home to 6.9 million people and an ideal opportunity for dōTERRA expansion into Greater China.

“Establishing an office in Taipei is a significant step in dōTERRA’s global growth. Taiwan has a very young, energetic population. Almost 50 percent of the population is under age thirty, and it represents a promising emerging market,” said Stirling.

Taiwan is a $1.9 billion dollar direct selling market according to the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations, and is a significant contributor to direct selling growth in the Asia-Pacific Region.
