Phil Friday, Principal of Harrington Group, Inc. and Senior Fire Protection Engineer, has written a chapter for the latest edition of The Fire and Life Safety Inspection Manual. The ninth edition of the manual is due out on May 22, 2012 and is the most up-to-date inspection reference manual for those interested in fire protection, fire safety, and life safety inspections. It provides step-by-step guidance through the complete fire inspection process, with special emphasis on life safety considerations. Mr. Friday’s chapter, titled “Hazardous Materials”, reviews how the storage, use, and handling of hazardous materials are regulated in buildings, how to identify and classify different hazardous materials, and what protection measures may be required to ensure that adequate safeguards are provided.
Mr. Friday has over 14 years of experience in the fire protection engineering industry and has been a key member of Harrington Group’s team since joining the firm in 2002. His experience includes fire protection system design, building and fire code analysis, fire origin and cause determination, and fire protection system failure analysis. He also specializes in forensic fire reconstruction and analysis using computer modeling and laboratory testing. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, with a Master of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering and earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee.
