With Cinco De Mayo approaching, the editor of, a hairstylist at The Canyon Salon in Westlake Village, CA, praised Mexican American women. She stated, "Mexican American women have a lot to be proud of with actresses like Salma Hayek and Jessica Alba representing their strong roots."

Cinco De Mayo is a celebration of pride and Mexican heritage. It is held on May 5th and commemorates freedom and democracy. It is celebrated primarily in the United States and regionally in Mexico. Cinco De Mayo is not the Mexican Independence day for which it is commonly mistaken.

Eva Longoria is a Mexican American actress famous for her role in the television series "Desperate Housewives." Salma Hayek is a Mexican American actress, producer, and director. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Frida Kahlo in the film "Frida." She was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Hayek is an activist for awareness of violence against women.
