Floyd Mayweather, one of boxing's genuine superstars and possibly the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, returns to action on May 5, and Boxing Insider (http://www.boxinginsider.com) is the place to be for all the action as he goes after Miguel Cotto's WBA Super World light middleweight title, live on HBO Pay-Per-View at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The outspoken Mayweather, who has won titles in five weight divisions, was last seen beating Victor Ortiz last September 17, and has still not tasted defeat (42-0, 26 KO's), although he lost one to the legal system--he'll begin a short prison sentence after the fight.
Undoubtedly, the controversy and speculation about a proposed fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will persist.
For that showdown to have any chance of ever taking place, Mayweather must first get by Cotto (37-2, 30 KO's), the reigning champion in this encounter, who has earned a reputation for making great fights. He went into the 12th round with Pacquiao before being stopped in November 2009, and avenged his only other loss in his last fight, a win over Antonio Margarito on December 3.
Mayweather vs. Cotto is a classic matchup between a slick boxer and a determined fighter who'll be pressuring him every step of the way.
Additionally, one of boxing's up-and-coming stars, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez of Mexico (39-0-1, 29 KO's), defends his WBC light middleweight title against future Hall of Famer Shane Mosley (46-7,39 KO's) on the undercard: this is going to be a one of the biggest shows of the year.
