A recent survey by MoneySavingExpert.com and Which? reported that a quarter of consumers seeking compensation for mis-sold PPI do not know that claims management companies’ charge a fee is shocking.
But what the data fails to highlight is that there are reputable companies who are working hard on behalf of the public to claw back the money which the banks owe them and do not charge sky-high fees.
This had led to the launch of the 'Reputable PPI Reclaim Campaign' this week which aims to raise awareness amongst consumers about safely reclaiming PPI.
The Campaign has a simple four-point checklist for consumers to use:
- always ask about fees
- are there any added charges placed on a claim?
- never pay any money in advance
- ask questions of the reclaim company - and also of your bank
Natalie Kay, from Easy PPI Reclaim, believes that the charter is essential as the whole industry is being tarnished by a few 'bad' elements.
“Like in any industry there are companies which charge more for their assistance and care less about the service they provide,” she said. “However, highlighting this minority is a neat tactic by the banks to make people hesitate about putting in a claim.
“If the banks genuinely want to reimburse their customers it would be far more helpful for them to draw attention to the reclaim companies which are quick, efficient and offer value for money.”
The BBC reported http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16575522 that compensation claims have surged since UK banks last year dropped a legal challenge against regulatory scrutiny of the way they dealt with PPI complaints. Recently MoneySavingExpert.com and Which? have pointed out reclaim companies charging 25% fees and warned consumers away.
However, they too have ignored the fact that some reclaim operations, such as http://www.easyppireclaim.co.uk, operate a transparent process which is there to help and aid customers. A highly regarded PPI reclaim company, such as Easy PPI Reclaim, can stand-up to big corporations and banks and ensure that a refund case isn’t ignored and delayed unduly. They also have the expertise of communicating directly with banks, which is something members of the public may hesitate doing on their own.
“Easy PPI Reclaim operate a no-win-no-fee policy as well as only charging 12.5% management fee - one of the lowest in the UK. We believe in providing an efficient, transparent service, as well as being very competitive on our pricing,” said Kay.
“The banks, Which? and MoneySavingExpert.com should be helping people with the PPI reclaims by highlighting good operators,” said Natalie. "Hopefully our four point checklist will help."
