Members of Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants used a variety of social media channels to spread a message of personal financial management and to promote April 30 as Financial Literacy Social Media Outreach Day.
In 2011, TSCPA’s members reached more than 20,000 people with this financial literacy initiative. This year, that number was easily eclipsed as more than 51,000 social network contacts were made utilizing Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and e-mail to help educate the public on the importance of financial literacy.
Among the ways this was done was to celebrate Financial Literacy Month and extend the Society’s financial literacy outreach through endorsing http://www.ValueYourMoney.org – a consumer website with personal finance information categorized in 12 distinct life stages – to a widespread audience.
The effort was well received as TSCPA reported more than 162,000 total hits to its website in April … the highest number on record for the Society.
In addition, articles in member newsletters promoted the effort, notices were posted on http://www.tscpa.org and ValueYourMoney.org, posts were retweeted on TSCPA’s Twitter page, and messages were uploaded to TSCPA’s Facebook and LinkedIn group pages.
