The study will provide policy makers with a greater understanding of the industry thereby helping to provide guidance on what issues need to be addressed to promote remanufacturing,” says Davies.

William Davies, President of Davies Office testified on behalf of the office furniture remanufacturing industry before a U.S International Trade Commission (USITC) hearing in Washington D.C. on February 28, 2012 (inv. no. 332-525). The hearing served as a supplement to the USITC study of the U.S. remanufacturing industry, Remanufactured Goods: An Overview of the U.S. and Global Industries, Marketing and Trade, to further evaluate U.S. remanufactured goods industries and markets, U.S. global trade in remanufactured goods, and factors affecting trends in remanufactured goods trade.

Davies’ testimony focused on the important role remanufacturing plays in the office furniture industry and the U.S. economy as well as its sustainability benefits.

“The economic and environmental benefits offered by remanufacturing can be significantly increased given a broader and more thorough understanding of the industry,” says Davies. The study will provide policy makers with a greater understanding of the industry thereby helping to provide guidance on what issues need to be addressed to promote remanufacturing.”

As part of the hearing, Davies shared findings from a proprietary study that was conducted for Davies by the National Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery showing the significant energy and environmental benefits of remanufacturing office furniture. Click here to read study

“Even though remanufacturing provides quality products at competitive, if not lower prices, not all companies and consumers consider purchasing remanufacturing products. More needs to be done to build the awareness of the significant economic and environmental impact of remanufacturing,” said Davies.

Davies will continue to work closely with the USITC on this important study. The final ITC report is expected by October 28, 2012.
