BKV “Block Logo” Gets KC Corporate Challenge’s Attention

Becky came up with the idea for the QR code, and I took it to extremes. It’s a great way to kick off our first year in the Corporate Challenge.

Question: What happens when a local marketing agency combines a set of power tools, 2,500 wooden blocks and a team of digital marketing overachievers?

Answer: H & R Block’s 2012 Kansas City Corporate Challenge award winner for “Most Creative Use of Blocks.”

Constructed by BKV — a direct and digital marketing agency located in Overland Park, Kan. — this award-winning entry pictures the BKV logo and a QR code that connects to a video celebrating the agency’s first-year participation in the KC Corporate Challenge. The brainchild of agency employee Becky Tomsic, BKV’s “block logo” took a grueling 20 hours to complete and required James Fuller, senior systems administrator, to write a computer application that determined the number of blocks required in each color.

“Becky came up with the idea for the QR code, and I took it to extremes,” Fuller said. “We had a lot of fun putting together the final product. It’s a great way to kick off our first year in the Corporate Challenge.”

This year marks the thirty-third year for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge, an Olympic-type event that allows Kansas City-area corporations to interact with each other through a variety of sporting events. The “Most Creative Use of Blocks” contest is sponsored by H & R Block as part of the company’s Corporate Challenge Kick-off Party and was awarded during the Corporate Challenge’s walk event on April 27.
