Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 03, 2012
Fabiana Estrada, local team leader for non-profit Accion, has been recognized with the Economic Opportunity Award by the South Florida Community Development Coalition (SFCDC). Accion provides microloans to small businesses owners who may not be able to borrow from traditional sources; Estrada’s work has helped increase lending in the region.
“I am very passionate about the work that Accion does for local entrepreneurs, so that makes my job enjoyable,” said Estrada. “I believe that by continuing to work together with the city and other key partners, we can improve the city’s economy by assisting entrepreneurs and creating jobs.”
Estrada was recognized for her excellent work bringing economic opportunity to families and neighborhoods in Miami-Dade during last night’s SFDC Awards for Excellence in Community Development at The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse in the developing arts district of Wynwood.
Miami-Dade County, which has struggled economically since the beginning of the recession in 2007, is moving ahead due to the efforts of many individuals and organizations such as Estrada and Accion. Since 1991, Accion has provided over 2,000 South Florida entrepreneurs with small business loans and free financial education.
Accion is a nonprofit organization that serves low-and moderate-income individuals, primarily minorities and women, who are unable to access mainstream business loans and financial services. A pioneer and recognized leader in the domestic microfinance field, Accion is dedicated to providing microentrepreneurs and individuals on the economic margin with the crucial chance to access capital and develop greater financial literacy. Accion is a member of the Accion U.S. Network, the largest U.S. microlending network, with over $320 million lent since inception in 1991. Accion business loans range from $500 to $50,000 and are offered nationwide via the Accion online lending platform.
