Innovative tools like these are good for our economy
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) May 02, 2012
In response to President Obama’s call-to-action, Snugg Home is excited to announce its commitment to the industry-led Green Button Initiative to enable energy customers to access and download their own energy data. Snugg Home will soon have Green Button capability enabled for its existing clients and partner utilities that are participating in this exciting advance in information sharing.
Snugg Home is committed to advancing natural gas and fuel oil information sharing within the Green Button standard. In many northern states, these energy sources can account for more than half of the total energy costs. Snugg Home intends to partner with utilities for pilot projects to build out tools for homeowners and contractors that utilize Green Button data that incorporates fuel oil and natural gas. Snugg Home is committed to building these functions into our applications to allow homeowners even greater insight into their energy consumption and the impacts of potential home improvements.
As Nancy Sutley, chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, has said, “Green Button will arm millions of Americans with information they can use to lower their energy bills.” She went on to say, “Innovative tools like these are good for our economy, good for the health of our communities, and an essential part of our approach toward a secure and clean energy future that works for Americans.”
SnuggHome wholly supports the efforts to provide consumers with the data to make the best energy related decisions for their homes and families. Snugg Home Co-founder Jeff Friesen said, “providing homeowners with consumption information, like that provided through Green Button, empowers them to improve their homes to reduce their expenses, increase comfort, and improve health and safety issues all as a result of reducing energy consumption.”
For example, the biggest indicator of how much a person can save on energy in the home is how much they have been spending and the patterns that drive those expenses. Energy usage, whether electricity, gas, fuel oil or others are currently entered into Snugg Home's assessment tool, iAudit Pro, through a variety of methods. With Green Button, this information will be transferred easily and quickly to assist auditors and homeowners in evaluating the options for a particular home. The auditor then can produce an informative and intuitive report designed to be understood and utilized by the homeowner to make decisions as to the home improvements that make the most sense for them today.
Additionally, the ongoing energy bills can be viewed by the homeowner on their own personal dashboard. Since Green Button information sharing can provide energy use before and after improvements, they can see how much money energy upgrades have actually saved them and continue to think about additional improvements.
Finally, the Green Button creates the opportunity to open up residential energy efficiency upgrades to those who were historically unserved or underserved by energy efficiency programs. Snugg Home’s online energy assessment tool can use Green Button data to generate recommendations for homeowners who do not have access to or want to rely on an auditor.
