To meet growing demand for accommodations in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital city, Icelandair Hotels recently opened its newest hotel, Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina. This hotel represents a significant strategic investment on behalf of Icelandair Hotels, Iceland’s largest hotel chain and also part of the Icelandair Group. According to Hildur Ómarsdóttir, Sales and Marketing Manager for Icelandair Hotels, “This new hotel is further evidence that Iceland’s economic recovery is in full swing and that Iceland has truly become a top destination for tourists. The economics are simple, we built this hotel to meet demand.”

Situated in a completely renovated four-story building, Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina is located in the up-and-coming harbour district of downtown. The 108-room hotel is centrally located for all the capital’s attractions with a backdrop of the majestic Mount Esja and the beautiful Faxafloi Bay. The hotel is uniquely located next to a historical, yet still fully-functioning dry dock called Slippur, where you can almost touch the vessels that are being worked on when walking towards the main entrance of the hotel.

Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina is the ‘’go-to hotel for a stay that offers all things bright and beautiful in the downtown area’’ says Snorri Thors, Hotel Manager, Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina. “It has a fresh and funky cosmopolitan city design offering an authentic and relaxed Reykjavik experience, inspired by the country’s Nordic seafaring culture and rich maritime history. All the elements of style and design throughout the public areas and rooms have been sourced from Iceland.”

The hotel features a fun and quirky canteen called, Slipp Canteen (open 24 hrs), and the Slipp Cafe, which serves sit down breakfasts in the morning and double as a coffee bar the rest of the day. Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina also features an in-house movie theatre which screens Icelandic films (with English subtitles).

Guests can choose from 52 well-equipped standard rooms, 20 deluxe rooms, two “Studio 4” rooms for families up to 4 people, two “Studio 6” rooms for groups of up to 6 people and 20 “Attic” rooms on the 4th floor, which offer stunning views. The hotel’s two spacious suites are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor and look out onto the Vesturbaer and Slipp Harbour. The rooms and suites are decorated with shipping maps or brightly coloured wallpaper and combine an eclectic and trendy mix of locally sourced artifacts.
