The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced that the Heavenly Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe will host the 2012-13 and 2013-14 U.S. Freestyle Championships.

One of the world’s top destinations for ski holidays; the South Lake Tahoe ski resort of Heavenly Mountain is confirmed to be hosting the U.S. Freestyle Championships for two consecutive seasons in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

The U.S. Freestyle Championships is a competition which tests both men’s and women’s mogul, dual mogul, and aerial abilities. It is not the first time the resort has hosted the competition; Heavenly hosted the 2004 U.S. Freestyle Championships, and also the international FIS World Cup Freestyle events in 1999 and 2000. This announcement from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) comes about a month after the news that the 2013 U.S. Alpine National Championships will be held in the close by resort of Squaw Valley from March 17-23. The competition will be followed up by the U.S. Freestyle Championships on March 29-31.

Heavenly covers two states; California and Nevada, has an average of 11 meters of snow, and over 300 days of sunshine each year. The freestyle competition takes place at the freestyle arena, on the Californian side of the resort. The mogul event is on Heavenly’s infamous Gunbarrel slope, described by Heavenly’s general manager Pete Sonntag as “the most iconic moguls run in North America… It’s the ultimate challenge for America’s top freestyle skiers.” The aerials contest will take place adjacent to Gunbarrel, at the base of World Cup run in California.

Crystal Ski offers ski holidays to the USA and several European ski resorts. Skiing holidays to Lake Tahoe cost from £848 per person for a week’s room only stay in Heavenly resort in the USA including flights from Heathrow.
