Oenophiles who seek a winery experience without the trek to wine country will celebrate the opening of the latest Downtown Santa Barbara tasting room--Grassini Family Vineyards. Slated to open in late May, the Grassini Family Vineyards tasting room will occupy a space in the historic El Paseo complex, adjacent to Wine Cask Restaurant and the popular tasting rooms of Margerum Wines and Au Bon Climat. A Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 26 – 28, 2012. Throughout the holiday weekend, the tasting room will be offering hors’ dourves along with half-price tasting fees, case discounts, and giveaways.

As the name suggests, Grassini Family Vineyards is a family operation, owned and managed by Larry and Sharon Grassini, and their daughters, Katie and Mandy Grassini. The tasting room will offer flights of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and other Bordeaux varietals, all of which are estate grown on the family’s 100-acre property in Happy Canyon, a warmer sub-region of Santa Ynez Valley.

"We are thrilled to be able to welcome more visitors and give them a taste of what Happy Canyon has to offer,” says Katie Grassini, General Manager of Grassini Family Vineyards. “Downtown Santa Barbara is such a great location, and we’re especially excited about finding the El Paseo space and being located alongside the Wine Cask and other great, local wineries.”

The storied El Paseo complex is noted as California's first shopping center. Built in the 1920s, El Paseo features a variety of unique shops, galleries, and restaurants nestled amid Spanish courtyards and gardens. The Grassini Family Vineyards Tasting Room decor will mimic the rustic elegance of the family’s winery in Happy Canyon, which was built using reclaimed antique fir milled from timbers discovered in the Oregon River.

The Grassini Family Vineyards Tasting Room will be open daily from 12-6pm; closed Tuesday and Wednesdays. Tasting flights are $10 per person; tasting fee is waived with bottle purchase. Reservations are required for parties of 6 or more. Visit 813 Anacapa St., El Paseo # 6, Santa Barbara, CA 93101 or call (805) 897-3366 for more information.
