The National Lighting Bureau (NLB) estimated that as many as 500 million, soon to be obsolete, T12 lamps are still installed in commercial, industrial, institutional and other non-resident buildings/ lighting systems nationwide.

“Many commercial, industrial and educational businesses have voiced concerns of the cost of replacing hundreds, if not thousands, of perfectly good fluorescent housing fixtures when faced with upgrading the T12 lamps to the more energy efficient T5 lamps “ said James Feeney, Managing Director of Improved Illumination, a leading energy efficiency solutions provider.

“The benefit of representing several manufacturers is Improved Illumination has the ability to offer unbiased solutions based on the individual client's needs and their specific requirements. One such cost effective solution is a unique, low-cost T5 Lighting Adapter Technology whereby the actual adapter fits into the existing bulb connectors currently in use and the shorter T5 bulb then fits into the new adapter.“

“This retrofit allows the client to take advantage of all the benefits of the more energy efficient T5 technology without having the additional cost of new lighting fixtures.” Feeney noted clients are also excited about the additional savings resulting from the 60,000 hour rated built-in ballast that allows the T5 adapter to burn a standard T5 28w bulb at 18w, resulting in even more savings.

Other benefits include a 5 year warranty, MET and UL 935 approval, 2’, 3’, 4’ and 8’ bulb fixtures to cover an even larger number of existing fixtures and the high lumen output associated with T5 technology.

According to a recent article, Joseph Holey, Manager of industry relations and environmental marketing at GE Lighting mentioned there remains a great many customers who are still in the dark about the impending lack of availability of the T12 lamps and ballasts.

“Although manufacturers have been communicating this message for almost three years, many building owners are still not aware of the phase-out of T12 lamps” explained Holey.

Improved illumination believes three factors; the rapidly approaching deadline, the significant expected cost increase of T12 lamps, due to supply and demand, and the real possibility of reduced incentives from local utilities make this a perfect time to take action.

Improved Illumination welcomes inquiries from business owners, property managers, landlords, building managers, warehouse managers, car dealerships, electric contractors, and others that what to reduce monthly energy consumption, lower lighting expense, and learn more about incentives available from local utilities.
