New York, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2012
Throughout the month of April, the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montefalco, the organization representing the interests of wine producers in the Montefalco region of Umbria in central Italy, showcased its wines at a series of promotional and educational events in New York City.
The "Sagrantino Month" promotion was centered around Eataly, where hundreds of consumers enjoyed Sagrantino and other wines of Montefalco by-the-glass at all of the restaurants, attended classes with select winemakers at La Scuola, and sampled the wines at Eataly's wine store. During the month, some well-attended pairing dinners were held at some of New York's best restaurants, as well as free tastings at wine stores around the city. At the dinners and in-store tastings, guests had the rare opportunity to meet and speak with various winemakers about Sagrantino and the wines of Montefalco.
At each of the promotion's diverse events, consumers and wine industry professionals once again showed a strong growing interest in indigenous Italian wine varieties, such as Sagrantino. On April 3rd at Eataly's Manzo Restaurant, Guido Guardigli, President of the Consortium and the Association La Strada del Sagrantino, greeted more than 40 journalists for a luncheon to kick-off "Sagrantino Month". Later in the month, Sommelier from top New York restaurants gathered for an intimate, late night meet up at Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria to taste Sagrantino and Montefalco Rosso. Finally, Ian Wolff, Wine & Spirits Editor of La Cucina Italiana Magazine, led 40 influential members of the wine trade in a class on Sagrantino. "This promotion has been very positive for us." says the President Guardigli. "We clearly see a concrete interest in Sagrantino and we should leverage on this experience to increase the business of our affiliates in the US wine market".
Consorzio Tutela Vini Montefalco was the leader and organizer of the promotion, financed by the OCM Vino funding and the Association La Strada del Sagrantino through the Chamber of Commerce of Perugia.
The Association La Strada del Sagrantino is a regional organization that promotes tourism in the Umbrian territory. The Association was an integral part of the campaign, providing promotional materials on all of Umbria's beautiful attractions, as well as important information about the areas of wine production: Montefalco, Bevagna, Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano dell'Umbria and Castel Ritaldi.
