Kenneth Stanley “Bud” Adams, Jr., ‘42, the powerful owner of the NFL Tennessee Titans, will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Business from Menlo College at their Commencement on Saturday, May 5.

In his 53rd year as Founder, Owner, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of the Tennessee Titans NFL franchise, “Bud” Adams is an enduring figure in the National Football League. One of the original team owners in the American Football League, he has guided the Titans to new heights since relocating to Nashville in 1997, posting six playoff appearances, including an AFC Championship (1999), an AFC Central title (2000), two AFC South titles (2002, 2008), an AFC Championship appearance (2002), and Wild Card teams in 2003 and 2007. He is one of only four recent NFL owners to reach the 350-win plateau – along with Ralph Wilson (Buffalo), Dan Rooney (Pittsburgh), and Al Davis (Oakland). Consistently fielding winning teams, his team has earned 21 playoff appearances in 49 seasons, a total that ranks 5th among NFL teams since 1960.

Bud Adams puts great emphasis on high academic achievement. In 2002, Bud Adams, an alumnus from Menlo College’s class of 1942, established the K.S. Bud Adams Jr. Endowed Scholarship at Menlo, which provides assistance for nearly twenty Menlo students each year, based upon demonstrated leadership and character, service, academic achievement. This Honorary Doctorate in Business serves as a tribute to him as a leading champion of professional sports, and for his accomplishment in business.
