“We are excited to report an increase in requests for senior qualified Hospitality applicants and placements in 2012,” says Alan Massarsky, president and founder of Marshall Alan Associates
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2012
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Hotel and food service industries currently represent 8.1 percent of the global economy - and are expected to increase 18% in 2012, adding more than 1.6 million new jobs. According to the U.S. Travel Association, the travel and tourism industry has already gained 224,000 new jobs since December 2009.
This news is not a surprise to hospitality recruiters at Marshall-Alan Associates, a New York executive search firm. “We are excited to report an increase in requests for senior qualified Hospitality applicants and placements in 2012,” says Alan Massarsky, president and founder of Marshall-Alan Associates. “The hotel industry keeps growing, and the need for top executives is as crucial as ever.”
Data compiled by STR Global bears out Massarsky’s words, revealing that the U.S. is showing a 4% increase in occupancy and an 8% increase in RevPAR. New York and San Francisco were among the top five regions in the Americas with double digit increases in RevPar, averaging an 11% increase.
“Household finances are gradually getting healthier,” according to The Outlook for the US Economy, released by Goldman Sachs in October, 2011. As discretionary spending goes up, the hospitality industry grows, and this is bolstered by increased hiring by companies that require their employees to travel between locations.
PKF Hospitality Research predicts that demand for new workers will be highest in cities where new hotel rooms are being added, such as New York City, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Tucson and Fort Lauderdale. San Francisco, Boston and other major cities are also in the process of new construction in the hospitality sector, and cruise ship ports can also expect to see hiring increase in 2012.
“The requests for top level executives just keep coming in,” concludes Massarsky, “Marshall-Alan is placing Managing Directors, Hotel General Managers, Directors of Operations, Vice Presidents of Sales and Marketing, Food and Beverage Directors - you name it, we probably have an open position looking for the perfect candidate.”
