Freeslate expands its installed base for high throughput polyolefin research

Not only will this [Freeslate’s high throughput system] accelerate the development and optimization of new catalysts, it will considerably decrease time-to-market for our finished catalysts.

Freeslate, Inc., the leading provider of high throughput research solutions, today announced that Albemarle Corporation has selected Freeslate’s high throughput system to accelerate catalyst discovery, development and commercialization. Albemarle will implement this state-of-the-art technology for polyolefin research and will collaborate with Freeslate in the development of next generation products to meet emerging market needs.

“Freeslate’s technology is essential in helping us meet growing global demand for our innovative catalysts systems,” stated Amy Motto, Vice President of Albemarle’s Performance Catalyst Solutions (PCS) division. “Not only will this accelerate the development and optimization of new catalysts, it will considerably decrease time-to-market for our finished catalysts.”

“Freeslate has a proven track record in delivering integrated, automated workflow systems to the polyolefin industry,” added Dr. Yves Ramjoie, Global R&D Manager in Albemarle’s PCS division. “Implementing Freeslate’s industry-leading system is a natural next step in advancing our existing catalyst capabilities.”

“Albemarle is an established leader in the industry and is experiencing impressive growth in the global market,” said John Senaldi, President and CEO of Freeslate. “We are proud to be working with Albemarle to help enable their continued commercial expansion.”

Although Freeslate’s system will be installed at Albemarle’s Baton Rouge facility, it will be used to evaluate catalyst samples from around the globe. Implementation of the Freeslate system will begin in May 2012 with the installation of the Parallel Pressure Reactor (PPR) and adoption of the polymer characterization process. The PPR, which facilitates up to 48 experiments per run, is designed for the screening, discovery and optimization of catalysts under realistic process conditions. Supporting the PPR is the polymer characterization process which allows for the assessment of key polymer properties. Additional high throughput solutions addressing broader materials applications and emerging challenges will be implemented in future deliveries. The Freeslate PPR and rapid polymer characterization process together can accelerate the entire polyolefin research cycle and will enable Albemarle researchers to make dramatic gains in productivity and innovation.
