I feel both pleased and blessed that the community has reached out so significantly to support this event.
Long Beach, IN (PRWEB) May 09, 2012
It’s eight years running: The 2 BigHearts Foundation invites everyone with a heart to participate in the 8th Annual 5K Run/Non-Competitive Walk on Saturday, May 26, 2012. The race gets larger and more successful every year; the 2012 event promises to be the best of all! The event is primarily sponsored by the La Porte Hospital Foundation and IU Health La Porte Hospital.
Proceeds from the event benefit the 2 BigHearts Foundation, an organization devoted to increasing awareness of heart disease in women.
The Annual 5K Run/Walk gets under way at the Long Beach Community Center, located at 2501 Oriole Trail. The scenic yet challenging course is diverse and hilly, and includes a stretch along Lake Michigan as well as the Long Beach Country Club golf course.
“I absolutely love the fact that the community has embraced this event,” says Jim Clarke, Foundation President. “It allows us to remember, and it enables us to promote the mission of the 2 BigHearts Foundation.” The organization was established by Clarke, whose wife Gigi, 44, and sister-in-law Sally Czechanski, 49, died on the same day, June 25, 2004, following heart attacks. Both women suffered from previously undiagnosed cardiomyopathy, or enlargement of the heart muscle. “I feel both pleased and blessed that the community has reached out so significantly to support this event. My breath is taken away every year when I see how community residents have rallied around this race. They have truly made it a Long Beach event. And,” he adds, “this race is a lot of fun!”
To register online, visit 2bighearts.org. Registration at the event runs from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The run/walk gets under way at 9:00 a.m.

“The race enables runners to compete and to challenge themselves on a demanding yet exciting course,” Clarke says. “It also enables us to get people to remember and support the 2 BigHearts Foundation.”
