Motley’s Auction & Realty Group will conduct a foreclosure auction of Meadow Event Park in Doswell, VA on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. The secured creditor has ordered the auction, ending a lengthy well financial struggle by the State Fair of Virginia, LLC. The non-profit’s struggle was well-publicized and led to the group’s bankruptcy protection filing in December 2011. In conjunction with the real estate sale are numerous intellectual properties and an online auction of equipment.

Meadow Event Park, purchased in 2003, was renovated and developed to be the new home of the Virginia State Fair. Mark Motley, President of Motley’s Auction & Realty Group, states, “The owners did an extraordinary job developing this property into a terrific multi-use facility.”

The 331+ acre complex includes a 76,130 square foot exhibit hall; 9,700 square foot Expo Center; three residences including the Chenery Manor home with a renovated 12,850 square foot special event hall sitting on the footprints of the original manor house; and a 24,000 square foot extensive equine facility. This historical property was the former home of the world famous, Triple Crown winning racehorse Secretariat. The history and significance of this property give high hopes for a successful sale. “The State Fair has a long history and holds lots of memories for so many Virginians. Many organizations have recently been through difficult times and the Fair is no exception, our job is to make those transitions easier. Although I am a businessman and auctioneer, I am a Virginian first and am proud to be part of the process of finding a new owner who will keep this tradition alive,” says Motley.

To be sold in conjunction with the real estate are numerous intellectual properties including the name and websites for State Fair of Virginia, SFVA, Strawberry Hill Races (with design), Richmond Highland Games & Celtic Festival and Meadow Highland Games & Celtic Festival. An online only auction of equipment including tractors, industrial lawn equipment, animal pens and shop equipment will begin May 15, 2012 and end at 2:00pm on May 24, 2012.
