The inspiration for Kirby J. Gallagher’s new novel, "A Gift from Grandpa: Passing the Torch to His Crystal Grandson" (published by Balboa Press), was the thought, “Men don’t get it. I didn’t. The good news is … it’s not too late.”
“I lived like a robot, as though under a spell; I did everything that was expected of me, as a man living in this place and time. I had lost that vital connection with my heart. Then, I turned 43, and slowly, a whole new world opened up to me,” recalls Gallagher. “The shell formed by societal conditions cracked and I heard a strange, meek voice. I was introduced to myself.”
Gallagher pours much of his life experiences into his protagonist David Duncan, a man clinging to life in order to fulfill a promise made to his 10-year-old grandson. David, like the author, broke out of society’s chains and is desperate to prevent his grandson from living the same imprisoned life. More important, David knows that his grandson is a Crystal child who has a special mandate that only he can fulfill.
“Gold stars, root beer, rainbow trout, and their own special handshake forged an unbreakable bond, but only David knew that his grandson was a Crystal child. David shared the same gift and made a promise to unveil its secrets to the boy, and pass on the legacy.
Now, nestled beside his grandpa’s hospital bed, unaware of what he is about to hear and the gift he is about to receive, young Ryan eagerly awaits the story of his grandfather’s quest for meaning, purpose, understanding of himself and this world, and his gift.”
“I know this book will speak to everyone, and I hope that men will read it and find new knowledge and permission to live from the heart,” says Gallagher. “I’m confident that everyone will be able to identify with Grandpa’s unique humor.” This new author hopes his work will entertain and inspire readers.
About the Author
Kirby J. Gallagher was raised in a small town in eastern Ontario. After leaving home for college, he was unwittingly drawn to the hustle and bustle of city life and away from the simplicity of his youth. Over time, Gallagher lost his grounding and was responding to everyone but himself. More than 20 years later, while working in a high-level national management position, he began to feel a subtle angst that wouldn’t subside. In search of its source, he entered through a doorway that led to his transformation and the wisdom found in A Gift from Grandpa.
