SkuRun Goes to the Kentucky Derby

Mobile business to business application startup SkuRun, founded by Ralph Acosta and backed by Luke Weil, wins Startup America’s ‘Send My Founder to the Kentucky Derby Contest.’


SkuRun CEO Ralph Acosta recently earned the opportunity to network and pitch ideas at one of the biggest social events of the season as the winner of the Startup America Project’s “Send My Founder to the Kentucky Derby Contest.”

Startup America announced on Monday, April 30 that they would be sponsoring a promotion for participating entrepreneurial businesses to gain a chance to send their founders to the Derby to network with the attendees, including Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher, and talk up their projects. The competition was inspired by this year’s Super Bowl, when Startup America head Scott Case brought a few company founders to the game to pitch ideas to business magnate Mark Cuban.

The surprise contest announcement arrived early on Monday and included the provisions that companies were to submit 60 second videos that answered three questions:

  •     What is your company's product or service?
  •     What problem does it solve?
  •     Why your founder should go to the Kentucky Derby?

To ensure that companies would act quickly and spontaneously, the contest was set to end at 5pm the same day.

It was announced on Tuesday that Ralph Acosta, CEO of the Los Angeles based tech startup SkuRun, was one of the chosen winners. SkuRun works to mobilize sales and marketing content for business to business relations, and recently completed a seed round of funding headed by lead investor Luke Weil.

Startup America CEO Scott Case said, "I'm incredibly excited to head to Louisville with Skurun and HipCycle to check out both the honored tradition of the Derby and the vibrant, growing start-up scene in Kentucky.”
