Sergeant Laboratories, the creators of Aristotle™, has released Aristotle™ 6.74 the computer monitor with two purposes in mind: to keep schools safe and to teach students how to avoid trouble on their own. With the advent of technology in the schools as well as at home, personal computers and the Internet have created their own monsters. Schools must now address new problems that come with progress such as cyber-vandalism, hacking, bomb threats, sexual predators, pornography and other technology-related threats.
Aristotle™ addresses those problems in a sensible way, by not only alerting educators to inappropriate behavior and danger signals in computer use, but by enabling schools to apply proven education principles to the computer network. Thus Aristotle™ Desktop Usage Monitor becomes a unique educational tool as well as a safety monitor for kids.
“Over twelve years the product proved to be a boon for educators to teach effective and responsible computing,” states Director of Product Development David Losen. “Society’s new technologies require new thinking by educators. Proposed technology solutions such as filtering and blocking are technically flawed. Ask any thirteen-year-old how to go around it. These approaches don’t teach outcomes to students, they just restrict their ability to learn. What will the students do when they go home? We designed something that works.”
From the computer desktop, Aristotle™ monitors and is programmed to automatically alert educators and key school staffers to anything askance, such as inappropriate correspondence, potential hackers, bullying or anything that would merit intervention by school administrators. At the same time, students learn how to avoid those dangers. In one situation, Aristotle™ detected a suicide letter as it was being composed and automatically emailed school officials. Counselors intervened even before the student left the computer and thus averted a potentially tragic situation.
Sergeant Laboratories, Inc (http://www.aristotlek12.com) is based in La Crosse, Wisconsin. With decades of experience in building advanced easy-to-use technology, the company gurus developed Aristotle™, with feedback from education professionals. The well-thought-out design requires only a simple, intuitive installation and easy maintenance. Simplified reporting makes Aristotle™ a plug and go solution for the busy school technical staff.
