President of AvectraLabs to Discuss Crowdfunding with leading business and government officials

WHAT:    Sterling Raphael, president of AvectraLabs, the innovation think tank of Avectra, a leading developer of web-based Social CRM solutions for associations and not-for-profits, will be a featured panelist at Washington DC’s first national crowdfunding conference, “The Wisdom of the Crowd.” The conference is set for Monday, May 14, 2012.

“The Wisdom of the Crowd” will feature experts from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Capitol Hill, think tanks, startups and the securities industry. Topics will include how small businesses across the country can successfully use crowdfunding, and steps that entrepreneurs and investors should take to avoid fraud in the emerging market.

The conference follows President Obama’s recent signing of the JOBS Act into law. The JOBS Act allows start-ups and small companies to seek out investors on the Internet. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) now has less than nine months to put in place rules governing crowdfunding. The conference, hosted by CrowdCheck, will discuss measures the SEC could adopt to ensure that substantial investor protections are in place at the inception of crowdfunding, as well as actions investors can take to protect themselves against fraud.
Avectra sees opportunity for not-for-profits and associations to take advantage of crowdfunding for innovative cause-driven initiatives.

WHO:     Sterling Raphael, president of AvectraLabs: Raphael is a veteran public speaker for such organizations as the ASAE, the Center for Association Leadership and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Raphael focuses on how technology and social business tools can increase association and non-profits’ success.

WHEN:    “The Wisdom of the Crowd” is taking place Monday, May 14, 2012.
WHERE:    The conference will be held at the Hotel George, 15 E Street, NW, Washington, D.C., and is open to members of the media. To attend the conference, please RSVP to CrowdCheckRSVP@skdknick.com.
The conference will be streamed live on the Internet at: http://www.livestream.com/crowdcheck.
