Sponsoring these public service announcements is just one more way we can give back to the community and raise awareness of the ever-increasing number of food allergies.

Continuing in their community outreach, Enjoy Life Foods has joined with the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) and Chicago’s public television station, WTTW, to produce a series of public service announcements promoting allergy awareness, just in time for May’s National Allergy Awareness Month. The PSAs first aired in Chicago, but are now available nationwide.

“Nowadays, everyone knows a child with food allergies. For these kids, including my young son, one mistaken bite can have devastating consequences. That is why allergy-friendly companies like Enjoy Life Foods are valued by all of us who love someone with food allergies—from parents to friends to neighbors, and even schools and daycares,” said Michael Lade, Vice Chair of the FAAN Board of Directors.

The PSAs feature Chris Weiss, FAAN’s Vice President of Advocacy and Government Relations, discussing the increase in allergies in children over the past 10 years, federal regulations requiring companies to display major food allergens, and the importance in taking children to board-certified allergists.

“It has been a pleasure to have Enjoy Life Foods as our supporting partner of our children’s nutritional outreach initiative. Their support has allowed us to reach further into the community and address nutritional needs, with a more concentrated emphasis on the needs of children with food allergies. How exciting it is that, because of this partnership, WTTW created and produced a very insightful and powerful series of PSAs that are designed to inform parents and address concerns about food allergies. These PSAs, which are exclusively presented by Enjoy Life Foods, will run during family programs on WTTW throughout the month of May to increase viewer’s awareness and education during National Allergy Awareness Month,” said Grace Winston of WTTW.

In addition to the PSAs, Enjoy Life Foods also sponsors the Walk for Food Allergy, which takes place in 45 cities across the country throughout the year to raise awareness and funds. With millions of Americans managing food allergies and more children being diagnosed every day, funding food allergy awareness, advocacy, education, and research programs is an essential element of the FAAN Foundation.

“Creating allergen-friendly foods that taste great, as well as being safe for the entire family is the cornerstone of Enjoy Life Foods,” said Joel Warady, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for the company. “Sponsoring these public service announcements is just one more way we can give back to the community and raise awareness of the ever-increasing number of food allergies.”

Enjoy Life Foods began as a class assignment. Company founder Scott Mandell wrote the company’s business plan during his MBA program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. In 2001, Scott traded in his banker’s suit for an apron, and Enjoy Life Foods was born. He began with the mission to create great-tasting, allergy-friendly snacks, and today the product line has grown to 40 different foods including cookies, granola, cereal, snack bars, seed and fruit mixes, chocolate bars, baking chocolate, and healthy lentil-based chips, all of which are sold in natural food, conventional grocery stores, and mass retailers throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as specialty online retailers. In January 2006, the company was the first to receive independent gluten-free certification for all of its products from the Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO).
