  •     Excellence in Clinical Improvement: Mary Washington Hospice – “Changing a Culture to Achieve Excellence"
  •     Excellence in Service Improvement: Mary Washington Healthcare Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine "Chemistry Redesigned: Leaning Towards the Future”

The GMU Awards recognize outstanding examples of quality improvement in team efforts in hospitals and health care systems. By focusing on real-world quality teams and their accomplishments, this award differs from local and national awards that focus on organizations. The Quality Improvement of the Year Awards are the only national awards to recognize quality improvement programs and teams from across the health care continuum, providing opportunities for shared knowledge, best practices, and partnership.

The GMU Improvement of the Year Award is open to all hospitals and health care systems in the Mid-Atlantic United States. Of the 22 submissions in only 6 categories, from health care systems along the east coast, Mary Washington Healthcare took two of the top six awards.
