Mendham, NJ (PRWEB) May 14, 2012
The Antiques Roadshow - or something like it - will be in Mendham, New Jersey on the first Sunday afternoon in June, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Expert "Art Hunters" Les and Sue Fox of Midland Park, New Jersey will be visiting the beautiful town of Mendham to autograph their new book "The Art Hunters Handbook" and with any luck to tell a few people that their old paintings are worth thousands (or millions) of dollars.
"We help people discover art," said co-author Les Fox, "Just like you see on TV. Except we do it at bookstores and banks, as well as through our website on the internet. In today's electronic age, it's possible to do art appraisals online. But it's a lot more fun to do it in person! And Mendham Books is a great place to be!"
Mendham Books owner Tom Williams was excited to invite the Foxes to his thriving shop in this quaint little town surrounded by horse country, antiques and great restaurants. "We're delighted to have the Foxes meet our friends and patrons on Sunday," he said. "Maybe someone will show up with a Picasso, or something totally unexpected. Like The Antiques Roadshow, you never know what people might have in their attic or garage. It will be fun to have our own personal art experts on hand to evaluate art."
The Foxes are experts in 19th and 20th Century oil paintings. Their new book showcases 120 artists whose work has sold at auction. "We also have access to a database of 240,000 artists with over 5,000,000 auction records," explained Sue Fox. "If a painting is valuable, we will research it and come up with a very accurate estimate of its current market value. As we tell people in The Art Hunters Handbook, the value of a painting is based on the fame of the artist, not the beauty of the painting. People are always surprised to learn that something they don't necessarily like may be worth a fortune."
In addition to appraising art, the Foxes also auction it as West Highland Art Auction Brokers, using Sotheby's, Christie's and other respected auction houses in the United States.
Art lovers and garage sale buffs are cordially invited to attend the Foxes' appraisal and booksigning event at Mendham Books located at 84 East Main Street in Mendham, New Jersey. For further information, contact either the Foxes in Midland Park, or Mendham Books at 973-543-4949.
