Elephants are one of the longest lived animals on the planet, so it takes years of study in order to understand these amazing beings,” said Colleen Kinzley, Director of Animal Care, Conservation and Research at Oakland Zoo.
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) May 15, 2012
On Saturday, May 19, at 6:00pm, Oakland Zoo will host a Celebrating Elephants evening presentation featuring Cynthia Moss, one of the world’s leading experts on African Elephants. In 1972 Moss started the renowned Amboseli Elephant Research Project at Amboseli National Park in Kenya. This is one of the longest running studies of any species of animal, and through this comprehensive long-range project, we have gathered and learned imperative information about African elephants.
“Elephants are one of the longest lived animals on the planet, so it takes years of study in order to understand these amazing beings,” said Colleen Kinzley, Director of Animal Care, Conservation and Research at Oakland Zoo. “The research and knowledge being uncovered through the Amboseli Elephant Research Project is vital to conservation efforts and animal keepers who take care of elephants in captivity.”
Ms. Cynthia Moss will visit with guests during a reception and silent auction. She will then give a presentation in which she will share the amazing story of her life with the elephants and what she has learned about them. All proceeds raised will support Amboseli Trust for Elephants (http://www.elephanttrust.org). The Celebrating Elephants evening begins at 6:00pm with a reception and silent auction followed by a presentation at 7:00pm. Appetizers and beverages will be served. The cost for this event is $40 per person. For more details, please call 510-632-9525.
