Academic research and collaboration has never been easier and more productive. Students are thirsting for digital solutions to their everyday studies.”

For library patrons and staff looking for a powerful book scanning solution that's fast, and easy-to-use, Xerox (NYSE: XRX) makes scanning of books and non-circulating materials feasible with its new BookCentre™ S7141, a self-service book scanning kiosk.

"Library patrons and staff can quickly and easily scan from books and send the scanned pages to email, smartphones, tablets, Google Docs, USB drives, fax or print them by selecting the desired option on the touchscreen computer”, said John C. Dexter, president and COO of Scannx, a Xerox licensing partner. “Academic research and collaboration has never been easier and more productive. Students are thirsting for digital solutions to their everyday studies.”

By using the Xerox BookCentre S7141’s easy to use touchscreen interface, library patrons and staff can scan book pages, and non-circulating books, historical records and genealogical files. Scanned images can be automatically converted into PDF, searchable PDF, Word, JPEG, TIFF and PNG file formats and sent to email, smartphones, tablets, Google Docs, fax, printers or saved to USB drives, network folders, and FTP folders to save paper and toner. Students can build searchable personal libraries by subject matter by sending scanned pages as a searchable PDF or Word file format to their iPad and store it in iBooks for sharing and collaboration. Moreover, confidential files can be automatically encrypted to protect against unauthorized access to the scanned information.

When connected to a Xerox printer or other validated printers, either directly or over the network, the Xerox BookCentre S7141 recognizes the printer features for print options on the BookCentre S7141’s touchscreen. The BookCentre S7141 also gives users a preview of the print job as well as adjustments for actual size vs. fit-to-page before paying for the print job. Since the BookCentre can integrate with debit and credit card payment systems, libraries can offer these scanning services free or they can charge for them through a cost recovery program.

The Xerox BookCentre S7141 includes a 17” touchscreen computer bundled with the Xerox BookCentre software, an 11” x 17” patented book-edge scanner to protect the spine of the book from damage, and is powered by ABBYY FineReader Technology for unmatched optical character recognition accuracy. The BookCentre S7141 may also be simultaneously connected to both the book-edge scanner as well as a Xerox DocuMate 3125 color sheetfed duplex scanner with ultrasonic double feed detection for unprecedented reliability.

The BookCentre includes a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty. Please visit http://www.xeroxbookcentre.com for more information.
