At the Union Square location of the wine bar Pierre Loti, customers can judge five different rosés from all over the world for $18 starting May 23rd.

Letting wine lovers taste multiple rosés gives them the chance to distinguish between the different rosé styles and see how rosés are not one size fits all.

At its Union Square location, the wine bar Pierre Loti is celebrating spring by introducing a one-of-a-kind rosé tasting tour starting Wednesday, May 23rd. For $18, customers can compare five exceptional rosés from all over the world.

For their personal tastings, customers select five of these popular pink-colored wines out of eight rosés from a host of countries including France, Italy, Australia and Spain. Tasting these rosés gives wine lovers a deeper understanding of rosé while introducing them to high quality producers.

“Letting wine lovers taste multiple rosés gives them the chance to distinguish between the different rosé styles and see how rosés are not one size fits all. They learn a lot about their preferences and get to enjoy a very exciting wine,” said Orhan Cakir, owner of Pierre Loti.

Pierre Loti starts offering the rosé tasting tour on May 23rd, and it goes until the end of June. If the offer takes off, Cakir intends on extending the promotion into the summer and expanding it to the two other Pierre Lotis in Manhattan. Pierre Loti has provided a list of the 8 rosés currently available for the tasting tour on their website. Customers can order the rosé tasting tour at any time in Union Square while the promotion is running.

“In spring, we see a flood of interest in rosés because they are chilled and refreshing,” said Cakir. “Our rosé tasting tour is set up to be fun and informative to both customers who are new to rosé and those who know rosés well.”

Rosé is truly a global phenomenon, and now outsells white wine in France. To satisfy the growing surge of rosé interest, Cakir included a rosé from Long Island to introduce one of New York’s quality rosés.

“Rosés are a recent invention,” Cakir said. “And I have found that customers either love them or they don’t. Many of the people who won't drink rosé do not realize how many variations there are. It is good to keep an open mind as they improve year after year and are here to stay.”

Cakir points to how some rosés are semi-dry while others are dry. All rosés have a pinkish color, but this can range from peach to mandarin orange to grapefruit depending on how long the grape juice has had contact with the skins.

Cakir predicts roses will only get more popular as young wine drinkers are just discovering rosé while older drinkers have taken notice that rosé has improved since it took the wine world by storm in the 1970s.

“Rosés are light and fruity, and the wine is great for picnics and going to the beach,” Cakir said. “We are really excited to see customers come in and have a great time drinking rosé.”
