Living Labs Global has announced that Where 2 Get It, inc., a location-based digital marketing solution provider, has been named the winner of the 2012 Living Labs Global Award. The City of Fukuoka, Japan, chose Where 2 Get It as the company that had best presented a solution for addressing Fukuoka’s public transportation challenges.
The Living Labs Global Award is presented to companies that develop technologies aimed to promote innovation in cities. Where 2 Get It was presented with the Living Labs Global Award for the Smart PathFinder solution, a location-based platform that will help residents of Fukuoka and tourists find and make use of public transportation throughout the city.
Smart PathFinder is a mobile technology solution that will communicate bus and city information to the citizens of Fukuoka and tourists. Where 2 Get It’s platform includes a mobile-optimized web page for each neighborhood and bus stop, which allows users to get directions to their nearest bus stop, calculate route time and distance, plan trips, and receive information on current city traffic conditions.
Using smartphone GPS functionality, Smart PathFinder is able to automatically find a user’s location and instantly present them with their nearest bus stop. Additionally, users of Smart PathFinder can share locations and leave travel tips on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. By leveraging these modern mobile and social features, Where 2 Get It hopes to make public transportation more attractive and easier to use, ultimately improving the quality of life for Fukuoka’s citizens as well as helping to protect the environment.
Regarding Where 2 Get It’s Smart PathFinder solution, a representative from the city of Fukuoka stated, “The Fukuoka Award jury chose to give Smart PathFinder its award because this showcase clearly towered above its competitors in responding to the challenge Fukuoka posed. That challenge was to improve mobility in Fukuoka by a solution that provides bus and city information to both residents and visitors using a mobile platform.”

Living Labs Global is a non-profit association based in Copenhagen and Barcelona working with 50 cities and 450 companies with the goal of promoting innovation in cities and overcoming technology, organization and trade barriers. In 2012, The Living Labs Global Award received more than 550 applications from 50 countries. Winning companies will now have the opportunity to work directly with their partner cities to implement the technologies presented for the award.
