SWORD 5.0 features new missions, behaviors and models, easier and improved exercise creation

ITEC visitors will see how SWORD brings unprecedented levels of interoperability.

At the ITEC exhibition and conference on booth #F120, MASA Group (“MASA”), a leading developer of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Modeling & Simulation (M&S) software for the defense, public safety, emergency management, serious games and games-related markets, is unveiling the latest version of MASA SWORD, the company’s automated, aggregated constructive simulation software for efficient training and analysis. SWORD helps users develop and deploy advanced and highly realistic scenarios for the training of decision-makers in command posts and crisis centers, as well as for the analysis of military doctrines and emergency procedures.

Through a number of live demonstrations with GIS, C2/C4ISR systems and other simulations, ITEC visitors will see how SWORD brings unprecedented levels of interoperability. Show attendees will also see how the new version of SWORD establishes a defense-security continuum and emulates civilian-military cooperation, offering defense and public safety organizations and systems integrators a host of new features and functionalities designed to address modern training and analysis requirements within a context of reduced budgets.

MASA SWORD and Systematic SitaWare Integration

At ITEC, Systematic, a leader in interoperable Command & Control (C2) solutions, and MASA are joining forces to demonstrate how situational awareness, C2 tasks, and a constructive simulation can complement each other to provide a “C2 Classroom” tool. The C2 Classroom is a fully-functional combination of two COTS products: Systematic’s SitaWare Headquarters software deployed alongside SWORD. The C2 Classroom is mainly aimed at C2 training, course of action analyses, war gaming, and simulation support in concept and doctrine development.
The solution can be further enhanced based on customer requests.

Amper Programas uses SWORD to add AI-empowered Course of Action Analysis, with embedded training

Visitors to the MASA booth will see how Amper Programas, a Spanish defense integrator specializing in COTS-based tactical Command & Control Information Systems (C2IS), is using MASA SWORD to add Course of Action Analysis (and embedded training) to the list of features already provided by its C2 systems and products.

The ne.tacplan tool is a military tactical planning tool for Land Forces, which is part of Amper's C4ISRne.onLINE™ command and control products. ne.tacplan helps users develop a complete tactical plan, including mission analysis, initial preparation of the battlefield through meteorological and terrain analysis, course of action development, course of action analysis and the issuing of plans and orders in electronic format.

The course of action analysis is executed using SWORD as the simulation engine, leveraging its unique characteristics and performance. Several courses of action can be fully analyzed and compared.

Interoperability of SWORD with TerraSim’s TerraTools®

Also demonstrated for the first time at ITEC will be the interoperability between TerraSim's TerraTools® and MASA SWORD. TerraSim's TerraTools® automates the construction of dense urban environments for operations planning and situation assessment; it also produces exercise databases covering hundreds of one degree geocells. TerraSim also provides database construction services and advanced technology development for both civilian and military customers. The SWORD exporter plug-in of TerraSim extends TerraTools’ range of capabilities to export terrain databases to a leading simulation runtime such as SWORD, while demonstrating the simplicity of importing existing terrains from other runtimes into SWORD.

Integration into multi-level systems and joint-training applications

SWORD's ability to be seamlessly incorporated with other simulations into a joint multi-resolution system will also be showcased through live demos with Bohemia Interactive’s Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) and MӒK’s VR-Forces entity level simulations. The applicability of SWORD in joint training simulation will be further evidenced through its integration with Cassidian’s ORQUE, a simulation used for instruction and training by the naval forces of the French Army. A video will also be presented at the show, demonstrating how high intensity combat phases can be handed-over from Rolands & Associates’ JTLS to SWORD, without any loss of information.

New Features in SWORD 5.0

The latest version of SWORD now also features new missions, behaviors and models, expanding the scope of operations to include Operations Other Than War (OOTW), Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) crisis management, low density conflicts such as counter terrorism, natural disasters, and the management of resource networks. In this release, advanced human factors automatically set levels of stress and fatigue based on the environment, resulting in enhanced simulated realism of field operations. The new features inside SWORD 5.0 empower users to easily and cost-efficiently create new scenarios to suit their unique training and analysis objectives.

On Wednesday May 23 between 15:15 and 15:45, Enrico Raue, New Markets Development & Sales Manager of MASA Group will present the latest version of MASA SWORD in the framework of the ITEC Innovation Showcase.

On Thursday May 24, between 09:30 and 11:00, Juan-Pablo Torres, President and CEO of MASA Group, will discuss the topic of “Developing Adaptive Leaders' control and preparedness with AI and doctrine-based simulation” as part of the “Addressing the People Dimension” ITEC conference session.
