Auto Insurance Company Uses Social Media to Help Animals in Need

California Casualty, a national auto and home insurance provider that caters to educators, firefighters, nurses, and peace officers, recently completed a campaign for their social media fan base that encouraged participants to earn money for animal charities by showcasing their own pets.

California Casualty, a national auto and home insurance provider that caters to educators, firefighters, nurses, and peace officers, recently completed a campaign for their social media fan base that encouraged participants to earn money for animal charities by showcasing their own pets.

California Casualty fans submitted more than 60 entries via Facebook and Twitter in about two days. Participants then took to California Casualty’s blog to vote for their favorites. On Monday, May 14th, it was announced that Boots Quigley, and her owner Margaret were the final winners. California Casualty made a donation of $200 to Hillside Animal Rescue in Pottsville, PA.

While California Casualty’s business is selling auto insurance for nurses, teachers, firefighters, and police officers – their social media focus is on growing a community around the interests of their fans.

According to Randolph, the community “feel” of their social media efforts resonates more deeply with their target occupations than an in-your-face ad.

“Ultimately, we’re here to show the firefighters, peace officers, nurses, and educators out there that we’re not like the other auto insurance companies they see on TV. We understand what they go through every day, so we focus on creating a fun environment that gives back to those people – and hopefully that will encourage them to take a closer look at the great insurance benefits we offer them.”

California Casualty is continuously looking to give back to these communities, whether that’s with a $25 gift card to a Facebook friend every week or with a $7500 school lounge makeover. These giveaways highlight California Casualty’s mission to set itself apart as a company that truly understands and appreciates its customers.
