Freedom Marathon Inc.(FMI), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and help support the needs of veterans and their families through running events, announces its second annual Freedom 8k race in Green Cove Springs, FL.
“We are honored to come back to Green Cove Springs and host this event for the second year in a row,” said Manny Cordero, CEO and Founder, Freedom Marathon, Inc. “Our goal is to honor our U.S. military veterans and support the health and fitness of our participants.”
Proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and Gunnery Sergeant John Hayes. Gunnery Sergeant Hayes is a double leg amputee wounded in Afghanistan in 2010 and continues his recovery at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. GySgt Hayes is the recipient of multiple accommodations and medals including a Purple Heart metal, two Navy Commendation medals with combat "V", a NATO Kosovo medal and many others.
Hayes will participate in this year’s event on his special hand crank bicycle. The Freedom 8k Series™ includes a rock climbing wall, wheelchair and stroller divisions, as well as a Kid’s Warrior Trot with special medals for all who finish. The main event is the Freedom 8k Run/Walk on Memorial Day.

9:30 a.m. Awards Ceremony (St. Johns Avenue & Walnut Street)
10:00 a.m. Kid’s Warrior Trot (N. Magnolia Avenue & Palmer Street)
