Fusing together sport and education, the goal of the Arsenal Double Club is to encourage children to learn about new languages and cultures in a fun environment where they can also gain confidence and ability in teamwork.
The creative design of the Arsenal Double Club website was enough to impress at The Communicator Awards, which were established nearly two decades ago to recognize talent in marketing and communication on an international level. Their Award of Excellence is awarded to only the best projects, which are judged by a panel of top-tier judges from professional backgrounds in media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing industries.
Cyber-Duck were keen to promote their User Centred Design methodology as the key for success in this project. Production Director Matt Gibson explains about the process. “User Centred Design is all about developing for the user and making sure that using the website is intuitive and simple for everyone. One of the challenges we faced on this project was getting the right balance between appealing for children, but also providing the right information for the teachers and parents involved in the programme. We think we got that balance just right, and this incredible award justifies Cyber-Duck’s status as one of the UK’s leading independent digital agencies!”
One of the impressive features of the Arsenal Double Club website is the Fun Zone, a special area designed for children where you can find a penalty shootout game created with learning in mind. Simply choose your language, then whether you want to test for primary or secondary school level and begin the game. Each correct answer scores a point, making it a fun and interactive way for young people to practice the language skills they learn through the programme.
Samir Singh, Museum and Education Assistant at the Arsenal Double Club, said “Everyone associated with Arsenal in the Community is delighted with the launch of the Arsenal Double Club Languages website. There is a wide variety of learning modules and resources as well as interactive features that we believe will certainly benefit the students. We now want to get as many schools, teachers, pupils and volunteers on board as possible.”

About Arsenal Double Club
The Arsenal Double Club has its roots in the ‘double’ winning season of 1998 when Arsenal in the Community piloted a scheme which fused football with literacy learning. The ‘double’ experience began with pupils in primary schools, local to Highbury and the Arsenal Training Centre in Hertfordshire, using football and Arsenal related resources to improve literacy skills for 45 minutes in the classroom. This was followed by a football coaching session with an Arsenal in the Community coach for another 45 minutes– mirroring the two halves of a football match.
