"Our goal as an organization is to help students demonstrate grade-level proficiency in their core academic subjects and to achieve proficient or higher on local, state and federal assessments," said Dr. George B. Thomas, Sr., Saturday School president.

Intelligent Decisions (ID), Inc., a recognized leader in federal IT solutions, proudly served as the major corporate sponsor for the 18th Annual Saturday School Golf Tournament and Fundraiser today at the Hampshire Greens Golf Course in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Saturday School, also known as the George B. Thomas, Sr., Learning Academy, Inc., provides tutoring and mentoring services for Montgomery County students to help accelerate student mastery of reading, language arts and mathematics. Proceeds from the tournament will be used for expenses associated with the Saturday School’s tutoring of students in over 130 Montgomery County Public Schools.

In honor of his father Dr. Harry Martin, Sr., who has been integrally and selflessly involved with the Saturday School for decades, Harry Martin, Jr., ID president and CEO, has proudly agreed to sponsor the tournament for the second year in a row and moving forward.

“Our goal as an organization is to help students demonstrate grade-level proficiency in their core academic subjects and to achieve proficient or higher on local, state and federal assessments,” said Dr. George B. Thomas, Sr., Saturday School president.

Key partnerships with local colleges and universities, including Bowie State University, Montgomery College, Uniformed Services University, Universities at Shady Grove, and University System of Maryland provide integral student volunteer tutors to the Saturday School. In addition, the school’s “High Achievement Scholarship Program,” established in 2005 with funding support from the Verizon Foundation, has awarded scholarships to 75 deserving seniors who have volunteered as tutors.

“I am truly honored to be part of the Saturday School, which has helped to further the educational dreams and goals of children in Montgomery County,” said Dr. Harry Martin, Sr., a long-time supporter of the Saturday School and a former member of the golf and fundraiser committee. “Intelligent Decisions’ sponsorship of this golf tournament is a testament to the company’s corporate citizenship that includes a key focus on children and education, and giving back to those less fortunate.”

Started in 1986, the goal of the Saturday School is to improve the academic achievements of children in Montgomery County, Maryland. The first academy started with 21 children and has since then increased to over 3,000 and is providing services at twelve different locations in Montgomery County. The school’s focus is to “close the achievement gap” that exists for minority students, but all students who wish to improve are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the program.
