VOCAL’s TR-069 modular software stack reduces software development efforts to incorporate auto-provisioning into VoIP applications for CPE devices.

VOCAL Technologies, Ltd. a leading designer of voice, video, fax, and data solutions, announced the release of their TR-069 modular software stack which simplifies engineering efforts to build-in device auto-provisioning during product development. The software stack is integrated with VOCAL’s software suite and manages the entire provisioning process with a remote Auto Configuration Server (ACS) to update and maintain Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) such as Voice over IP (VoIP) enabled devices.

The CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP) protocol, more commonly referred to as TR-069, is used to establish communications with a remote ACS. VOCAL’s software stack fully implements the CWMP messaging and includes a management layer to handle communications with the ACS. If necessary, the software can be easily configured to interface with a specific vendor ACS configuration using other network management protocols such as HTTP or SNMP.

A services layer acts as the glue to mediate and control the interactions between the TR-069 data models and VoIP application on the managed device. It implements TR-106, TR-098, TR-111 and TR-104 standards which define the data models for the device including manufacturer, serial numbers, product class, supported codecs, and other capabilities. The services layer provides notification alerts and synchronization locks to ensure data integrity and performs the software updates for the application at the device layer. The services layer is also extensible to implement other specifications such as TR-135, TR-140, etc. to support specific customer requirements.

VOCAL’s modular TR-069 software stack simplifies the implementation of auto-provisioning with the OEM developer’s software. It is integrated with VOCAL’s software suite and executes in a Linux/uCLinux environment with minimal memory footprint. Like other components, it can be readily installed and configured to work with an OEM developer’s application software. The software stack supports multiple network management protocols to operate with remote ACS from different vendors.
