Encryption Wizard Adds Salt to Oracle Database Encryption Security Menu

RDC Software, http://www.relationalwizards.com, has unveiled the latest 7.3 release of its database security suite today, the Encryption Wizard for Oracle. The new transparent database encryption offering now ships with salt encryption options for both AES-256 and DES3 encryption.

With the ability to add salt to our database encryption algorithms, the Encryption Wizard makes data theft of character strings, such as social security numbers and credit cards, much more difficult.

Saying "please pass the salt" is not only good table manners but is now the utterance of many security managers and database administrators in response to advanced cryptography methods which can compromise the security of encrypted database columns. Adding salt to an encryption algorithm makes the unauthorized decryption of character strings more difficult by concatenating a semi-random value to secure the data.

RDC Software, http://www.relationalwizards.com, has unveiled the latest 7.3 release of its database security suite today, the Encryption Wizard for Oracle. The new transparent database encryption offering now ships with salt options for both AES-256 and DES3 encryption.

“With the ability to add salt to our database encryption algorithms,” explains RDC marketing director Don Parret, “the Encryption Wizard makes data theft of character strings, such as social security numbers and credit cards, much more difficult.”

Using automated decrypted views and triggers, the Encryption Wizard is able to serve applications encrypted data that appears as table data to the authenticated user. With schema, table, and column level security controls, it becomes virtually impossible for traditional data theft to occur, since all encrypted data is dependent on a second-layer of authentication.

Built around an intuitive Java interface, the Encryption Wizard for Oracle is the ideal tool for security managers and database administrators who are looking for an affordable and tested transparent data encryption solution as an alternative to Oracle TDE.

The Encryption Wizard has been protecting Oracle databases since 2002. Fully functional free trial downloads are available at:
