Come Reason Ministries and the Well Christian Club at UCR have announced a formal debate to settle the question “Does God Exist?” The debate will be held on campus at the University of California, Riverside on May 23 at 7:00 PM. Arguing for this highly contested topic will be Christian apologist Lenny Esposito who will face off against popular atheist and Internet author Richard Carrier.
“I think debates like these are exciting and valuable” said Esposito. “It gives both sides an equal opportunity to put forth their best case. It has been my experience that university students especially have never been exposed to the amazingly strong evidence for God’s existence science has recently uncovered. I look forward to interacting with Richard and the audience in the Q & A period.”
Graham Krahn, the debate organizer said that he too was hoping to expose his fellow students to a wider worldview. “Debates such as this are great. Young people are really curious about matters of faith and God, and here they understand that a university setting is both a neutral environment and also a place to seek out knowledge. They can listen to two experts give the best reasons they have for their beliefs. Then the students get to decide what they think.”
The debate is sponsored by The Well Christian Club and Come Reason Ministries. It is scheduled from 7:00 – 9:000 PM in the University Lecture Hall (UNLH 1000) at 900 University Avenue, Riverside, CA 92521. Admission is free and open to the public; however university student will receive priority seating. More information on the event can be found at http://www.comereason.org.
