Cats make great pets but not if they scratch anything and everything they can get their paws on. Award-winning writer Annette M. Alston tells of one such feline as she shares a charming picture book about Sheri Berry the Scritch Scratch Cat. This engaging tale is a warm and musical way to strike the heartstrings of elementary school children and cat lovers everywhere.
Sheri Berry the cat may be lovable and sweet but her favorite pastime is a bad habit that could cost her a home. She loves to scratch everything until Mrs. Berry can take no more of it and throws her outdoors. Fortunately, sad faces and tears prevail and a way is found to keep the house pet.
A delightful way to get young ones to start reading, Sheri Berry the Scritch Scratch Cat is a read-aloud book meant for elementary school children. Pre-K and K students may use it for phonemic awareness and rhyming opportunities; the book’s rich language can be used for students from grades 1, 2, and 3. Lessons on descriptive words and shades of words can be taught easily. It is also a good model for telling a personal experience in poem form.
Sheri Berry the Scritch Scratch Cat will be featured at the 2012 Florida Library Association Book Exhibit in Orlando, Fla. on April 18-20, 2012 and at the 2012 New Jersey Library Association Book Exhibit in Atlantic City, N.J. on June 5-6, 2012.
