Birst Inc., the leader in agile business analytics, today announced that Principal Financial Group, a leader in offering businesses, individuals, and institutional clients a wide range of financial products and services, is using Birst to gain analytical insight into the needs of its customers. With information provided by Birst, the financial advisors in Principal Financial Group’s Client Resource Services Department are increasing sales and further enhancing customer satisfaction by anticipating which existing customers are most likely to benefit from the purchase of additional products and services.

Birst’s best of breed cloud technology combines enterprise-class business intelligence (BI) functionality with the economics of a software-as-as-service (SaaS) solution. Principal Financial Group is leveraging Birst’s innovative solution to optimize how the company identifies potential up-sell and cross-sell opportunities within its existing customer base. By comparing the demographic profiles of its existing customers with their buying behavior, the organization is better able to predict which existing customers are likely to need additional products and services. Through its ability to better identify unmet customer needs, Principal Financial Group is increasing sales and customer satisfaction.

Principal Financial Group has also recently extended its Birst deployment to more efficiently track the organization’s financial advisor recruitment process. Replacing a cumbersome, time-consuming reporting process that provided only weekly updates, Birst’s easy-to-use, self-service, online dashboards are now providing managers with instant, up-to-date insight into the recruitment pipeline.

“Birst’s dashboarding capabilities are phenomenal and the solution is incredibly easy to deploy,” said Jean Jennings, Director of Client Resource Services, Principal Financial Group. “We’ve been able to quickly build new reports as interest has grown within the company, and we expect to continue to expand the implementation as more of our departments see what Birst can do.”

Birst’s cloud-based BI solution allows mid-sized organizations and enterprise departments to transform data from multiple sources into actionable insight at a fraction of time and cost of traditional, on-premise BI solutions. Additionally, Birst can be deployed in the cloud or on premise, which has allowed Principal Financial Group to keep its data on site, while still taking advantage of all the benefits of a SaaS solution. After evaluating a number of solutions, Principal Financial Group’s Client Resource Services Department selected Birst because it provides users with fast, self-service access to up-to-date information and can be quickly and easily deployed—and expanded—with minimal IT assistance.

“Birst makes it possible for enterprise departments to gain the business insight they need, when they need it, without utilizing valuable IT resources,” said Brad Peters, CEO of Birst. “This means that departments are no longer limited to just identifying their most pressing business questions, but can instead take action to answer them and, as a result, improve overall performance.”
