Television fashion expert praises Thailand, a destination offered by Hayes & Jarvis, for its culture, people and wealth of opportunities for shopaholics

When it comes to fashion, Gok Wan is one of the most respected figures in the industry, the half-British, half-Chinese celebrity has fronted shows such as How to Look Good Naked, Gok’s Fashion Fix and Miss Naked Beauty. Gok clearly knows the best places to shop, and while most would cite cities like New York, Paris and Milan as shopping capitals of the world, Gok has suggested that Thailand also cuts it as a shopaholic’s paradise. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Gok commented ‘The attractions of Thailand for me are the shops and the colourful street markets. There are loads of bargains and it’s a dream destination for shopaholics like myself.’

Of course Thailand is already a particularly popular long haul destination for British holiday makers, the warm climate, beautiful, unspoiled beaches and bustling cities attract millions to the country every year. Gok’s comments however will no doubt tempt those who like to return from their holidays with double the amount of clothes they came with to try out a holiday or city break in Thailand. Bangkok is full of mega-malls and is every bit the glitzy, glamorous city that fashionistas will revel in. The Siam Paragon is perhaps the city’s premier shopping location boasting retail outlets selling everything from soft furnishings to sports cars, a cinema, and an aquarium.

For a more traditional shopping experience, the night bazaar in Chiang Mai presents tourists with a sensory experience as they take in the sights, sounds and smells of this lively market with stalls selling everything from jewellery to Thai street food. Hayes & Jarvis has long been offering luxury long haul holidays to Thailand and are proud to offer a range of fantastic hotels where shoppers can put their feet up after a hard day’s retail therapy.

The Centara Grand in central Bangkok is a modern 505 room hotel with 9 restaurants and bars, outdoor swimming pool, spa, sauna and fitness centre, offering some of the best hospitality in the city and direct access to the Central World Shopping Mall. The hotel is just 35 minutes from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport. If the markets of Chang Mai appeal, then the Kantary Hills is the perfect place to chill out and admire your wares, with its sleek decor giving a taste of modern Asian living.
