Summertime brings many family friendly festivals, but car buffs should take special note of these three:
1 .Retro Fest in Chatham, Ontario is a two day classic car festival taking place this week on Friday, May 25th and Saturday, May 26th. Chatham is only 53 miles / 85 km from Detroit, the Motor City, and Chatham is also home to RM Classic Car Restorations and Auctions, an international company, second in it's class worldwide. There will be plenty to do for the whole family, but in case you cannot make it, RM's Ontario facilities are also open year-round for tours.
2. On the U.S. side of the border, RM will be part of the annual Concourse D'Elegance to be held Friday, July 27th through Sunday, July 29th, 2012 at The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth, Michigan. This special event is a long-standing tradition that first began in the late 17th century when the French Aristocracy paraded it's horse-drawn carriages through Paris parks on weekends and holidays. This year it will feature 300 very special cars that have been included by invitation only. Other car owners can pay to enter their car to be included in a local cruise. Other events include a gala and VIP events. Sunday, the show is open to the public.
3. What started out as a soccer fundraiser in 1995 is now the Woodward Dream Cruise, the world's largest one day classic car event. Each year it is held the third Saturday of August, which makes this years date Saturday, August 12th, 2012. 40,000 cars will be showcased as they cruise a 16 mile stretch of legendary Woodward Avenue in Metro Detroit, with plenty for families to do along the way.
