Winners from all over the world were honored in Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 during the 7th annual dinner and presentations, held concurrently with the Interop, Las Vegas tradeshow.

The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world, supporting over 200 subway trains at 148 stations and a ridership of over 2,000,000 passengers daily. After years of research and evaluations of several vendors’ wireless equipment in a high speed and harsh subway environment, the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT) selected Firetide’s wireless infrastructure mesh solution to provide Seoul’s subway system with a real-time, high-bandwidth, mobile wireless video surveillance network. Firetide was selected for this deployment because no other wireless mesh vendor could provide the performance required to deliver high-speed streaming video from the station to moving railcars or to operate in one of the harshest of environments for RF networks.

In addition to providing video surveillance from the station to train operators and from the inside of passenger trains to a monitoring center, the network also provides video streaming of public announcements and commercial advertisements to screens inside the passenger trains. A total of 1,000 Firetide mesh nodes are deployed for all four SMRT subway lines along with 350 cameras in the stations and 300 in the trains. The wireless infrastructure delivers 20 Mbps of capacity, enabling real-time streaming video to and from the trains moving at 50 mph.
