London-based DesignMarketo's Bar Alto will make its US debut in Atlanta during MA12 “Design is Human”, a series of events from June 1 – 10 celebrating international design excellence and creative culture. This is the fifth consecutive year that MA (Modern Atlanta) turns the spotlight on Atlanta as the design hub of the Southeastern US.

“Bar Alto was first launched in 2011 during the London Design Festival,” explains Bernard McCoy, who founded Modern Atlanta with Elayne DeLeo in 2007. “It was organized by DesignMarketo as a direct reference to Milan’s famous Bar Basso, a popular designer hang out during the Salone del Mobile international design fair in Milan.

“During MA12, on June 7-9, from 2PM to “late”, DesignMarketo will offer Atlantans a variety of specially selected brews and cocktails, including the famous Negroni, in Bar Alto, a pop-up bar. Long-time Bar Alto collaborator and London-based designer Harry Thaler will design the unique pop-up space in Atlanta in Space2 next to SoundTable in the Edgewood Design District. DesignMarketo’s founders Alexandre Bettler and Jerome Rigaud will also be at Bar Alto to talk about this concept and their vision of modern design.”

Duralex Picardie Tumbler Exhibit
Part of the Bar Alto experience will be DesignMarketo’s limited edition Duralex Picardie glass tumbler exhibit. In addition to limited edition tumblers commissioned in 2011 by renowned designers such as Maria Jeglinska, Nitzan Cohen, Max Frommeld and many others, DesignMarketo will present additional 2012 Picardie commissions by popular Atlanta-based designers including Kevin Byrd, Travis Ekmark and Colin Farill.

Additional MA12 Highlights
Other MA12 events include the first ever Athens Home Tour on Saturday, June 2, the MA Design Exhibition and Home Tour Launch event on Friday, June 8 at Terminus 2 in Buckhead, and the Annual MA Home Tour, curated by the Atlanta AIA Chapter, on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10. Tickets to the Home Tour are $35 per person which includes entry to the June 8 MA Design Exhibition & Home Tour Launch event. By offering thoughtful and thought-provoking events, Modern Atlanta continues to create excitement in the global design arena, not just in the Southeastern USA.
