'Leadership in Action' event to offer training, discussion, vendors and networking in Orange Beach, Ala.

The Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs (AAFC) is collaborating with Columbia Southern University (CSU) to present their summer conference, “Leadership in Action” June 17-20 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach.

“The CSU Special Programs Department is excited to work with the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs,” said CSU Special Programs supervisor Cecile Nelson. “This conference will offer a wealth of knowledge, experience and training for fire officers and firefighters. We even have a high-volume water delivery demonstration scheduled on June 19.”

Nelson added,“You don’t have to be an Alabama fire officer or firefighter. We invite anyone who wants to learn about leadership and firefighting to attend.”

The conference will feature a pre-conference workshop on June 17 on “Effective Leadership Behaviors: The Anatomy and Physiology of Leadership.” Retired fire chief and author Alan Brunacini will share his wisdom and experience as participants learn to resolve issues through the use of actual case studies and leadership experiences.

Opening ceremonies will be held on June 18 featuring remarks by AAFC President Russell Ledbetter, Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon, Orange Beach Fire Chief Shane Phillips, Gulf Shores Fire Chief Hartley Brokenshaw, Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs President Paul Syx and CSU President Robert Mayes. Keynote speaker for the conference is Mike Brooks, a law enforcement and security analyst for CNN.

The AAFC is a fellowship of fire chiefs and senior chief officers from across the state dedicated to the free exchange of ideas and information to advance the delivery of emergency services throughout the state.
