HighPoint Solutions announced today that James Slubowski, Senior Vice President of Healthcare, has authored a chapter in the 6th edition of Essentials of Managed Health Care. The book, by Dr. Peter Kongstvedt, is the most widely-used graduate-level textbook on managed care.
Essentials of Managed Health Care provides a comprehensive, authoritative overview of the strategic, tactical, and operational aspects of managed health care. The new edition includes revised content and new chapters on pressing topics, including HIPAA, the military health system, global managed care, claims administration, and disease management. Mr. Slubowski wrote the chapter on Information Systems and Electronic Data Interchange in Managed Health Care, which covers the role and opportunities of information services in a payer organization, health information exchanges, provider and employer informatics, consumerism, and privacy and security requirements.
Mr. Slubowski is an experienced managed care executive who spent 14 years as VP of Enterprise Operations and CIO at Priority Health. While there, he helped grow the company from $300 million in annual revenue to $2.1 billion with over 625,000 members. He has also worked in Ernst & Young’s healthcare consulting practice and as a manager with Henry Ford Health System. He served on the Board of Directors of the Managed Care Executive Group and is a member of the West Michigan Executive Council, The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, and the West Michigan CIO Forum.
In addition, Mr. Slubowski has contributed to The Managed Health Care Handbook and Essentials of Managed Health Care, 4th Edition. He is an active lecturer at the University of Michigan and Grand Valley State University and was a member of the advisory board for Grand Valley State University’s School of Computing and Information Services. He is an Adjunct Instructor at Grand Valley State University’s Seidman College of Business. His academic credentials include a BA in Computer Science from Wayne State University.
